Douglas County Hospital has over a hundred volunteers working together with staff to provide quality health care services to meet the needs of our patients and demonstrate our commitment to excellence.

The generous donation of your time and talent and can make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. Meet new people, enjoy flexible hours and gain personal satisfaction that comes with helping others.   Enjoy a complimentary coffee and roll in our Gift Shop each day you volunteer.

Volunteer Opportunities

Gift Shop - Our Gift Shop volunteers work together selling gifts, taking phone orders, preparing toast, serving sandwiches and helping our staff and visitors with a smile.

Information Desk - At our Information Desk, volunteers sort and deliver mail, deliver cards and flowers, respond to department calls, direct patients throughout the hospital and greet people entering the hospital.

Surgical - Volunteers take calls from the operating room and interface with families who are waiting for patients in surgery.  They also prepare packets of information for the surgical staff. 

Radiation Oncology - The Radiation Oncology volunteer is located in the waiting room area.  He/she visits with patients and their families.   They provide coffee and comfort to those in need.

Medical Oncology - Volunteers assist staff, run errands within the hospital and take patients to different areas throughout the hospital.   They also greet patients and families as they enter the medical oncology unit.

Joint Care Center -    The Joint Care Center volunteers work closely with patients and staff following knee or hip replacement surgery.  They provide support and encouragement to help the patient on the road to a quick recovery.

Mobile Meal Drivers -   Volunteers deliver meals and visit with people who receive meals prepared by the hospital.  These meals are for those having dietary restrictions or needs.   The volunteers communicate and provide personal warmth and contact.
